Your family has been told you look like you're carrying a girl ... or a boy? What is your intuition tell you? Finding your baby's sex is an interesting part of the pregnancy, so let's do a little prediction!
Our gender prediction test was developed by the founder babyMed Dr. Amos Grunebaum, an Ob-Gyn who has delivered more than 5,000 babies. It is based on many factors which can be correlated to predict the sex of the baby, but please note that we have included a common pregnancy myths and the test is for fun purpose only.
The most common medical test to predict the sex of the baby is testing blood cell-free fetal DNA, CVS (chorionic villi sampling), amniocentesis and ultrasound.
NIPT or noninvasive prenatal test is a blood test for mothers-to-be and can be done during pregnancy start as early as 9 weeks of pregnancy. Tests checking presence or absence of chromosome Y. If the Y chromosome is present then the sex of a baby boy, if not, it's a girl. However, the main reason for doing this test is to check the baby's risk of chromosomal abnormalities, including trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome) and trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome). The NIPT is a screening test, which means that if an abnormality is found, it must be confirmed with other tests such as CVS or amniocentesis.
(CVS) is an invasive test is done around 11-13 weeks of pregnancy. A needle is inserted through the abdomen or through the vagina with the aid of vaginal ultrasound and a small portion of the placenta is removed and examined. CVS reveal the sex of the baby as well as chromosomal anomalies.
Amniocentesis, like CVS, is an invasive test. amniocentesis is usually done about 16-18 weeks of pregnancy. A small amount of amniotic fluid, approximately 10cc or less than 5-10% is removed and sent to the laboratory. amniocentesis revealed the sex of the baby as well as chromosomal anomalies.
Ultrasound is a non-invasive test is usually done around 18-20 weeks of pregnancy. As part of the anatomy of the screen, the technician and the doctor will examine the baby's legs to confirm if any of the labia (girls) or penis / scrotum (boy). Ultrasound around 18-20 weeks to reveal the sex of the baby is close to 100% accurate, and it is less accurate before 15-16 weeks, but the error has been known to have been made.
NIPT, CVS, amniocentesis is a very reliable method to determine the sex of the baby. There are other methods, most of which are less reliable.
There are various types of products that are sold directly to customers promising to reveal the sex of the baby. Some kits are sold on Amazon to test your urine for as low as $ 14.95. This is not really accurate as the technology to reliably determine the sex of the baby from the mother's urine does not exist. Another test that is sold online is a blood test that claims to be the same as the test NIPT. Test cost about $ 80 and can be done after 9 weeks of pregnancy and claims to be 99% accurate
